In summer, the animals feed upon leaves of willows, sedges, tundra plants, and mushrooms. In September, their diet consists of lichens, dried sedges, and small shrubs. The closest relatives of these animals are reindeers; most animals are light brown and white and can grow from 100 to 150 cm long.
